Worker's Compensation

Repetitive Stress Injuries

Workers' comp isn’t only for one-time injuries sustained on the job like falls or machinery accidents. Repetitive stress injuries that occur over time like carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and bursitis are also covered.

Workers' Compensation - Repetitive Motion & Trauma

Conditions that occur over time due to overuse, repetitive strain and cumulative trauma also qualify for workers' compensation benefits

However, the amount and types of benefits that you are entitled to are limited by state workers' comp laws. Our attorneys are experienced at navigating Oklahoma's workers' compensation laws and can help you file your claim to ensure you get the benefits to which you are entitled.

Carpal Tunnel

Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common repetitive stress injuries we see worker’s compensation claims for.

At its root, carpal tunnel is caused by overuse of the hands and fingers, often as a result of a job that requires excessive amounts of typing. Poor ergonomics can make the problem worse.

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage in your wrist that protects the median nerve and flexor tendons to your fingers and thumb. If it’s being overused, the tunnel or surrounding tissues can swell and put pressure on the median nerve.

If you notice numbness, tingling, burning or constant pain in your fingers, that’s a major sign. You may also feel shock-like sensations in your fingers, pain and tingling in the forearms, weakness and clumsiness in your hands. Much of the time, these symptoms come on slowly and you might not notice them much. But as your carpal tunnel syndrome progresses, you may get to the point where you’re in too much pain to do your regular work at all. You may even have to stop using your hands to get them to heal.

When that happens on the job, it’s grounds for a worker’s compensation claim.

Tendinitis and Bursitis on the Job

By its most basic definition, tendonitis is inflammation or irritation of a tendon and bursitis is inflammation of the joints.

Tendonitis of itself isn’t a huge problem if caught early and treated with rest, but if left untreated it can lead to much more severe problems, including rupture. It’s a repetitive stress injury that indicates you’ve been putting the affected limb under too much stress or using it the wrong way.

Improper technique or overuse when you do the same motion over and over for your job can lead to tendonitis or bursitis. If you’ve suffered an injury like tennis elbow, a torn meniscus or shoulder rotator cuff on the job, you may qualify for workers compensation benefits.
