Part 1 – What is the future of old cases filed prior to Feb. 1, 2014?

The Oklahoma workers’ compensation system was reformed with the establishing of the Workers’ Compensation Commission which became effective February 1, 2014.
Judge Margaret Bomhoff is now the only judge handling “old law” claims, and her term expired July 1, 2022. Lawyers argued for over one hour last month in the Oklahoma Supreme Court with regards to the Court of Existing Claims (CEC), which has jurisdiction for all cases prior to February 1, 2014.
The Attorney General’s office argued that the Court of Existing Claims has been abandoned and the open claims should be transferred to the District Court of Oklahoma County.
